Singapore and Asia’s First and only Paralympic Medalist (Equestrian Sports)
Laurentia Tan developed cerebral palsy and profound deafness after birth; doctors warned that she might never walk.
Today, Laurentia is Singapore’s most successful Paralympian, being Singapore’s, and Asia’s, first and only Paralympic medalist for equestrian sports - winning two bronze medals at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, and a silver and a bronze at the 2012 London Games.
In recognition of her achievements, Laurentia was conferred the Pingat Bakti Masyarakat (Public Service Medal) in 2008 and Bintang Bakti Masyarakat (Public Service Star) by the President of Singapore in 2012.
Laurentia is also a Solidarity Ambassador for the Fḗdḗration Equḗstrḗ Internationalḗ, helping the federation in its efforts to develop equestrian sports around the world.
